Bronchogenic cysts, although relatively rare, represent the most common cystic lesion of the mediastinum.

CT scan of showing large bronchogenic cyst

Clinical case:  6 year old boy with a history of recurrent pneumonia, presents with acute onset of hemoptysis (coughing blood), he had no sick contacts, no history of fever; previous testing for tuberculosis had been negative.

2 years prior to this presentation he had been admitted for the large fluid accumulation into the cyst.  This had been drained and he was being evaluated for surgical removal of large right-sided cyst.
