Be able to identify the following blood components from a peripheral smear

  • erythrocytes, platelets, neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils
  • know the blood cells relative abundance in the blood
  • Distinguish the different classes of white blood cells and the conditions under which each would be expected to dominate
  • Correlate the light and electron microscope images of red and white blood cells
  • blood typing
  • understand the following terms: hemoglobin, hematocrit, buffy coat, serum
