Diaphragm

The diaphragm is a sheet of internal skeletal muscle that extends across the bottom of the rib cage. The diaphragm separates the thoracic and the abdominal cavity. It functions in breathing. During inhalation, the diaphragm contracts, enlarging the thoracic cavity, this reduces the intra-thoracic pressure and sucks air into the lungs.
